Multiple Sclerosis Day: a reminder of how far we have to go

Every day, 2.3 million people around the world wake up knowing they will have to live with multiple sclerosis for the rest of their lives. But on the 30th of May every year, World MS Day celebrates global solidarity and hope for the future. Led by the MS International Federation, the event is designed to bring the global MS community together to share stories, raise awareness and campaign with and for everyone affected by multiple sclerosis.

MS is one of the most common neurological disorders and causes of disability in young adults. Along with the 2.3 million people with MS worldwide, it is likely that hundreds of thousands more remain undiagnosed. Many lives are affected indirectly by the disease: carers and the children of those who suffer.

Doctors have so far been unable to pinpoint the cause of MS. But, while there is no cure, there are treatments available that can help some forms of MS and therapies that manage the symptoms. Read the full article
